GME Thrift Emporium – A God-Given Vision Realized
What began as an impossible dream in 2022, with no money for the project, it became a powerful reality. As a charity, GME lacked both the financial and human resources to purchase, renovate, and transform a building into a thrift store and coffee shop. But God provided—every step of the way. From an interest-free loan to a generous down payment, His provision made the dream possible. In just five weeks of dedicated effort, GME Thrift Emporium came to life.
God brought together a remarkable team of volunteers, each offering unique skills and talents. This team devoted themselves wholeheartedly to preparing the store, and each day they witnessed God's hand advancing the work. The local community responded with overwhelming support—donating gently used clothing, household goods, sporting equipment, books, games, and more.
We also extend special thanks to the following businesses for their incredible support:
Rona (Portage la Prairie)
DC Security (Portage)
Red Apple (Portage)
Janzen’s Paint (Portage)
Hi-Tec Industries (Portage)
Greenberg & Greenberg Law Firm (Portage)
Steckley Consulting Engineers (Winkler)
—and to everyone who generously contributed financially to this project.
GME Thrift Emporium now shines as a light in the community.
It serves as a vital point of contact between the people of Portage la Prairie and the people of God. While the church often waits for the “lost” to come through its doors or attend its programs, the thrift store goes to them. It opens the door for relationships, conversations, and ministry with individuals who may never set foot in a church building.
Here, we have the privilege to show the love and mercy of God, to live out the life of Christ before others. We can share the gospel—the good news and message of hope. We can pray for those in need and respond to their material needs with compassion.
